Q. Are all Japanese teachers are certified?
A. Most teachers are certified but some teachers are teaching without certification or qualification.

You have to meet at least one of following conditions to become a Japanese teacher;
　
・Pass the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test.
・Complete 420 hour curriculum at a Japanese teacher training course.
・Major or Minor in Japanese language education at university.

Some people are learning Japanes language education by their own and are teaching as volunteer, language exchange or online teacher.

You can ask your teacher if she/he is certified if you are curious about it.

Q. Do Japanese teachers have skills and knowledge other than teaching Japanese?

A. Yes we do! Japanese teachers all have interesting backgrounds.

・Start working as a Japanese teacher right after they get certified.
・Have another job and also work as a Japanese teacher.
・Changed career to become a Japanese teacher.

There are many different cases other than these.

On our website (@unique_japaneseteachers_tribe ), we have many unique teachers with interesting knowledges and skills.

For example;
1. Used to be a teacher at elementary school and is able to support not only Japanese but also children’s school study.

2. Teaching Japanese to Japanese kids as “heritage language”.

3. Teaching Japanese related to food and aiming to make various kinds of food accessible. (Vegan food, halal food etc..)

4. Teaching Japanese playing video games.
